  1. Ok, so I saw this piece of garbage, poor excuse for a brain dead “action” movie on TV. I forced myself to watch this ludicrous, inanely plotted flick on commercial television solely out of morbid curiosity (for the record, I refuse to watch a well made film on commercial TV because of censorship and continuity issues, movies as bad as this are just fun to goof on). This has to be about the worst movie ever made. The only positive thing that can be said is that the number of stupid plot twists and absolute physical impossibilities put forth are balanced perfectly by the poor dialog and wooden direction. There was nothing in the plot that someone past the eighth grade couldn’t see coming a mile before it got there. I am truly amazed at the rating viewers gave this waste of celluloid and I’ll never again trust a review given by Tom Keogh (see his review above).

To quote my wife, “This movie proves that MST 3000 died a premature death.”

PS Unfortunately, the lowest rating Amazon allows is one star. That is ten times more than it deserves.

  2. A mildly entertaining action thriller. The acting and directing are rather poor, but the action sequences make up for it. The worst thing about the movie is Keanu Reeves, who is probably the worst actor in Hollywood with George Clooney a close second.

  3. Man, this movie sucks. Make no mistake, I am a man. I like my movies manly and violent. I just wanna point this out, cause so many people love to write reviews for things that they wouldn’t generally care for, which is pretty worthless. I have nothing against ‘Speed’ in theory, or action movies in theory, anyway. Basically, ‘Speed’ lives on its gimmicky premise. The trouble is, this premise proves to be exceedingly dull. Riding the bus is not especially thrilling. In fact, actually riding the bus is more interesting than this film: there are often crazy people on the real bus. Also, you can play a game to try and determine which of the 5 cell phone conversations that you are overhearing is the most asinine. (This is futile, however. They are all always banal beyond belief.) Then the movie goes on for a lot longer than it should’ve, and simply becomes silly and moronic rather than tedious, so it covers all its bases, I guess. Also, it has the obnoxious, loathsome Sandra Bullock and a particularly dull Keanu Reeves. Hopper hams it up, as he ought to, but he’s a lot less fun than usual. That’s the ultimate problem with this movie– it’s stupid and tedious, but in a pious, serious way. You can’t laugh at this the way you can lotsa crappy action movies. All you can do is groan, sigh, yawn and finally, sleep.

  4. I just finished watching this movie on VHS 15 minutes ago. It was very difficult to sit through the whole thing. The acting was bad, the characters were 2D; it was like a bad made-for-TV diaster movie. I think Keanu Reeves was fantastic IN THE MATRIX. But I am suprised he was given a lead again with this movie in his portfolio. I should add that the camera work was good. But the music was awful (like Casio keyboard sequences). And the dialog was just cheesy. I am honestly shocked that this movie did so well at the box office, even among respected critics, and still gets good reviews here. I think 10 or so years from now, people will look back and wonder what in the world they were thinking when they praised this movie. Awful, shallow, canned, trite, forced, devoid of even the pretense of reality. It reminded me of Con-Air. Same kind of hoakiness, but at least Con-Air had a protagonist with some depth.

  5. Did you ever actually sit down and watch this movie, it’s ridiculous. It’s not believeable at all, a large city bus could not jump a gap in a 50 foot gap in a bridge at 70 miles per hour. That may be cynical but it’s the truth. Anything to get attention to the films poor acting and horrible plot line. The only thing that saved it (and not by much) was Dennis Hopper, but I don’t understand what he was thinking by being in such a terrible movie. I find it sad that this movie actually became a blockbuster hit, and so much so that they decided that there must be a sequal to it. I don’t know who made that decision but there should never have even been a first one. If I’m wrong and you like this movie more power to ya, but if you have never seen this movie…go get something better, anything better please…don’t waste your time…I know this movie isn’t suppose to be a work of art…so you be the judge…but I’m sure I’m wrong
