These are almost indistinguishable from the original JoyCons. We have a few after-market “Pro” controllers that are not able to make certain moves or control certain aspects of Pokemon: Let’s Go. So I got these for the kids hoping that they would work on those moves and turn out to be less expensive that the brand-name ones.It turns out that these do in fact mimic the original controllers in every way during game play, so that’s already a win. Additionally, they paired up automatically by sliding them onto the sides of the console, and as a bonus, they’re a little larger, and have a more ergonomic shape which makes it easier when the adults join the fun. As an added bonus, they come with a micro-USB port, so they can be charged with a regular USB cable/charger combination. There is however, one little drawback to these. Because of their larger size, they cannot be connected to the comfort-grip that came with the console, nor any other ‘charging’ grip that requires the JoyCons to slide into a pre-sized opening. I guess it’s a small price to pay for the lower price and added features.
Update:This works wonders as an additional joy con. We can easily play 4 player games, with ease. I purchased a charging dock, hoping I’d be able to charge everything at once, but because of the curvature, and extra width of the controllers it’s not possible, but they come with 1 charging cord, and they can be charged on the switch while the switch is plugged in.The right R1 button stopped working, so I’m in the process of receiving my replacement. They’ll be here in a few days, and even though I’ve come into this issue, I’m not upset. These controllers work phenomenally, and I can’t wait to resume having fun with these.Received fairly quickly. They’ve got a bit of a curvature. They’re quite comfortable, and very light weight. I purchased these joy cons over the “Nintendo” version because I wasn’t trying to spend $50+ on controllers. I would absolutely recommend I bought these so my family, and friends can play 4 player games on it when I have company over. I’ll add an update, once I have enough people over to play a four player game.
I had been planning to buy an additional pair of Nintendo Joy Cons for when we have company over, but had poor experiences with a few 3rd party alternatives, ,so I had decided to just put off the purchase until they were actually needed and intended to just buy another pair of the Nintendo Joy Cons. I recently bought Ring Fit Adventure, though, and my Switch is usually docked, behind a glass door in my TV cabinet and I didn't want to keep having to remove my Nintendo Joy Cons from my switch every time to use Ring Fit, so I figured I'd try these 3rd party Joy Cons out.I have previously seen other 3rd party Joy Cons with the same design and found most reviews for them have been satisfactory. So, I decided to try this design for the first time and was already pleased to see that there was a new color option available that was similar to that of the new Pokemon Switch Lite.Overall, I'm pretty impressed with how well this product has been working, given how few of the 3rd party Joy Cons really stand up to a comparison against the Nintendo Joy Cons! Here's a few things I want to point out as far as differences between the two -- these may be positive or negative depending on your needs when it comes to 3rd party Joy Cons:-Great color option -- I purchased the color option that's similar to the Pokemon Switch Lite, which actually goes really well with the black Switch tablet.-No Amiibo support-No Home button LED-No IR sensor-Controller body has more ergonomic design than Nintendo Joy Cons -- 3rd party Joy Cons provide more comfortable use in handheld mode because of this design, but also will not allow for most grip cases. May be a great option for someone who already has a case/protector for the Switch tablet portion.-Controller seems to feel better when used as single Joy Cons -- myself and others have had issues with how small the Nintendo Joy Cons feel in the hand without a grip attachment. These 3rd party Joy Cons are "thicker" and provide better comfort when compared to the Nintendo Joy Cons without any additional grip attachments (grip attachments will not work on the 3rd party Joy Cons due to design).-Instructions are included, but the translation is poor, so I'm still trying to figure out if/how the left controller can be updated (see screenshot)
